Behold the power of the internet!

I remember when people thought the internet would isolate people.  We'd all be cloistered up in our own little rooms typing away to total strangers that we'd never meet...and that we probably should never meet because they'd all be axe murderers anyway.  Right?  Well, There are some people who do isolate themselves, I'm sure, just like there are (really, really unfortunately...) some people who are axe murderers.  Then there are people like the two smiling women you see in my new banner picture who have so much in common and think so much alike that they call themselves twins.  And they met on that isolating, axe-murderer attracting internet.

That's my Twinnie, B, and me.  We haven't seen each other in ten years, so it was a pretty big deal when she came through town last night, and we got to have dinner and giggle in person the way we've been giggling over the phone, chat, and email for years.  And she'll be coming back through in a week, so we get to do it all again!

We "met" on a message board for women with dogs back in 1997 and met "in real life" three years later  when a group of folks from the board got together for a big camping trip.
I think the final count was nine women, five husbands, three kids...and 22 dogs!

B doesn't knit (after all, even twins aren't always exactly alike), but we're alike in most other ways, we married guys with similar personalities (a week apart), we share most of the same views on just about everything and can finish each other's sentences.  I don't have siblings, but if I could choose anyone in the world to be my sister, it would be B.  She's golden, one of those people who are friends for life.  I wish she could live next door to me, but chaos would ensue.  Neither of us would get anything done because we'd be drinking coffee and giggling like teenagers...all...day...long.  Laundry would go undone...houses uncleaned...meals uncooked...blogs un-updated...but we'd have a lot of fun!

Next up...yarnishness and actual WIP progress!!!

  3. Such a good point! The Internet has led to huge numbers of friendships and romances and I have no reason to believe that the average quality or length of these relationships is any lower than others. I think the Internet has done more than anything else in bringing regular people from various countries together. I think a lot of Americans have finally grasped the fact that foreigners are actually human. What a good thing!

So glad you've just had a chance to get together with your friend.

  4. This post makes me smile...because I too have found new friends and reconnected with old ones from years past through the power of the internet and it's just so much darn fun! Even more so when you get a chance to see each other face to face and feel as if no time has passed since your last get together. Cheers for friendships! (And yeah for dogs :))
