Friday night, I sang with The Harmony Project downtown, on the riverfront, at an event called Waterfire. Here are a couple pictures from this event, courtesy of friends of The Harmony Project.
We had a perfect evening for this event, a rare evening of moderate temperatures and humidity. However, once the fires were lit and the stage lights turned on, we were inundated with smoke, ash, and bugs. When I felt the first few things hit my arms, I told myself it was just ash...then I felt things crawling ON my arms and, well...ASH DON'T MOVE!!! I hung in, managing to swat most critters in time with the music and restraining the urge to go shrieking off into the night, especially when someone said something about "brushing all the bugs off of your back". Yikes! All in all, it was an amazing evening with a lot of energy from the choir, the band, and the audience. Great fun!!!
The next night, we drove down to Circleville, to Braeburn Farm for a concert with Tony Ellis and Friends. I snapped a few mediocre shots of the concert and grounds.
Our friend, Larry, who lives in Nashville and constantly lobbies us to move there, is the bass/washboard player. We got to visit with him and his wife, Marsha, and several other friends. I knit Marsha a garter lace scarf for her birthday.
I always love hearing this group play. Tony Ellis is legendary, having played banjo with Bill Monroe and also having been a mentor of Steve Martin (yes, THAT Steve Martin) who released a great CD of banjo tunes a year or so back. His son, William Lee, is a great country blues guitarist and singer with Larry accompanying on bass or washboard. I found a video of my favorite song (which they did Saturday night). Enjoy!!!

What a fantastic way to spend an evening. Well, minus the bugs, I mean. LOL
ReplyDeleteLaurie, I wish I could have been there to hear you sing. It sounds like it was a very fun evening!
ReplyDeleteWas it the Waterfire in Providence? That's something I would love to go to next time...
ReplyDeleteI love going down to the Ampitheater. Do you remember when they did those laser light shows years ago to music? Still think about those. May be low tech now, but then it was Amazing!
ReplyDeletefun, fun, fun! :)
ReplyDeleteI used to HATE outdoor concerts! The sound was usually crappy, we were hot and sticky, and my voice inevitably gave out afterwards... Ah, things I DON'T miss about singing in a choir!
